Lisa Vanderpump’s PUMP Restaurant Opened Three Years Ago Today

On Tuesday May 13th, 2014, restaurateur and reality TV star Lisa Vanderpump held her grand opening ceremony for PUMP Restaurant in West Hollywood. The restaurant still stands seemingly successful for three consecutive years on the oh so very gay southeast corner of Santa Monica Boulevard and Robertson, in the heart of WeHo’s Boystown. That’s only two doors down from The Abbey Bar and Restaurant.

Pump resides in what has always been known as the Bermuda Triangle of West Hollywood. It’s the spot where numerous businesses have opened shop and then vanished mysteriously overnight. It sat vacant for several years. It once housed Java Detour coffee shop. But most veteran WeHoans may remember grubbing on some nachos at Tacos Tacos Tacos Mexican Restaurant during most of the 90s and early 2000s.

I shot the premier opening event for The Fight Magazine. It was a nightmare. There were a bunch of shrubs everywhere that made it nearly impossible get a clear shot, but we all managed.

Celebrity guests included names I’m not familiar with whatsoever like Catt Sadler, Joanna Krupa, Robin Antin + GRL (I’m way too lazy to look them up).

There were some names that I know well like Jai Rodriguez of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, WeHo’s very own Miss Bobby Trendy of the Anna Nicole Smith Show, as well as local politicians like West Hollywood Mayor John D’Amico and then Mayor Pro-Tempore John Heilman.

Anyway, it looks like Pump Restaurant has broken the curse on that corner. Congratulations to Todd and Lisa Vanderpump for managing to keep their doors open for three whole years.

And to think…no one thought that it would last.
