Today is Starbucks Appreciation Day. They support marriage equality, and from my own experience, the local Starbucks in West Hollywood also supported this year’s Gay Pride with the Starbucks crew wearing coffee cup rainbow logos on their shirts. I am more than happy to support this company in return.
Truth be told, I appreciate Starbucks everyday (check out my bank statements), but today I encourage EVERYONE gay/bi/lez/trans/trans identified/trans confirmed/straight/asexual to hit up your local Starbucks to give them thanks for their support, whether it’s personal or the support hits someone you love. Since I always purchase a tall Venti Dark coffee with a side of their Perfect Oatmeal (with nuts & fruit, but hold the brown sugar please), on Starbucks Appreciation Day I plan to buy gifts cards. Today is the day to invite your friends out for a cup of Joe. Spend your money for a good cause. It just feels like the right thing to do.
This is in response the Shit-fil-A Appreciation Day led by assholes like former Arkansas governor and Fox News contributor Mike Huckabee. It also provided a perfect photo-op for media slut buckets like Sarah Palin and that plus-one she calls a husband (I don’t know his first name) who ironically looks gayer than a gay all the way in this photo (those two have sold their soul to the devil. How do they live with themselves?).
Anyway, this is why I’ve been on the fence about protesting in front of Shit-fil-A. I was all gun-ho about going at first. Then I saw the media frenzy and I witnessed the long list of hate mongers sit and spin before a plate of that shit in support anti-equality. I realized that all we were doing is putting money in the beaks of Shit-fil-A and giving them a shit load of publicity that money can’t buy. Protesting a product doesn’t always work. They made record sales from this controversy. And I also hear a severe case of diarrhea has swept across the Bible Belt and Pepto-Bismol has been flying off the shelves. Pity.
I say fuck ’em. FUCK ‘EM ALL!!!
Don’t forget. Hit up your local Starbucks today. Treat yourself to Lemon Loaf. Buy some gift cards (you can give them out later) and treat a friend—oh yeah, and tomorrow is Equally Wednesday in support of marriage equality and family values (equallywed.com). WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!
